	Korg Wavestation A/D The Korg Wavestation is all about sonic texture, just one of the many reasons it has featured in numerous film and TV soundtracks. Its innovative vector synthesis engine allows sounds to morph from one to another creating atmospheric, ever-shifting sonic textures that are well suited to soundtrack work. 	Korg 01/W The Korg 01/W followed on from Korg's groundbreaking M1 synthesiser. As a wavetable synth, it is less flexible than more recent instruments but it still has a lovely sound that can prove ideal for certain occasions.
	Moog Modular The undisputed king of classic synthesisers. The Moog Modular gets its strength from being, well, modular: sounds are created by patching together any number of circuit modules using patch cables. This total flexibility allows the Moog Modular to create sounds no other synth could dream of. The Moog Modular is also notable for its warm, fat analog sounds that create a real presence in the mix. 	Minimoog The Minimoog inherits the classic Moog sound but in a more compact and convenient form. Notable for its warm, fat analog sound, it's suitable for bass-lines and soaring leads amongst others.
	ARP 2600 and 1601 sequencer Probably most famous for its contribution to Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the ARP 2600 has contributed to many an album and soundtrack. Popularly used by Pink Floyd, Jean Michel Jarre, Klaus Schulze, Genesis, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Ultravox, Gary Numan and Steve Hillage amongst others. 	Oberheim SEM A very capable synthesiser with a surprisingly wide and useful palette for its diminutive size. The Oberheim SEM also offers good sub-bass control where extra weight is required. Its step-sequencer also allows for very controlled articulation and very effective sound stage projection.
	Oberheim Matrix 12 The Oberheim Matrix 12 synthesizer built on the great Oberheim synths that had preceded it, namely the Oberheim SEM, OB-1, OB-X, OB-8 and Xpander. Offering great flexibility, it has a strong sound that can often cut effortlessly through the mix. Oberheims have been used by greats such as Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre, Madonna, Van Halen, Rush, The Police, and many more.
	Roland Jupiter 8 A staple of many a studio, the Jupiter 8 has featured on more albums and soundtracks than many other synthesisers thanks to its adaptability and ease of use.
	Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 The Prophet 5 was one of the earliest polyphonic synthesisers. Its list of users reads like a who's who of the music business and includes the likes of Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, ABBA, Pink Floyd, Jean Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, Mike Oldfield, Paul McCartney, Radiohead, Depeche Mode, Gary Numan, Genesis, and countless others.
	Sequential Circuits Prophet VS The Prophet VS introduced a radically new concept called vector synthesis which was designed to create more animated sonic textures. This technique later found its way into the Korg Wavestation which took the concept even further.
	Yamaha CS80 A no-compromise synthesiser for the professional musician and sound designer. The CS80 supplied most of the soundtrack for Blade Runner by Vangelis, and has also been used by Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Jean Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk, Klaus Schulze, The Who, 10cc, Tori Amos, David Bowie, Kate Bush, Camel, Coldplay, Gary Numan and countless others.
	Eminent Solina When it comes to synthesized ensemble strings, few instruments can match the Eminent Solina. It's forerunner, the Eminent 310, proved a hit when used by Jean Michel Jarre for his seminal albums Oxygène and Équinoxe. 	Arturia Analog Laboratory Like its little brother Analog Factory, Analog Laboratory brings a wide range of sonic possibilities into one place for rapid prototyping and development.
	Akai S1000 Digital Sampler Samplers take real-world sound recordings and turn them into musical instruments to be played from a keyboard. From speech and 'found sounds' all the way to classical musical instruments with detailed articulations, digital samplers allow them to become part of the composition. As sampler instruments are based on audio recordings, they are ideally suited to emulating real instruments. Like the Fairlight, the Akai S1000 was one of the first samplers to offer high quality digital processing.
	Wurlitzer Electric Piano When it comes to electric pianos, there are two true classics: the Rhodes and the Wurlitzer. The Wurlitzer is particularly suited to sitting within a complex sonic landscape. 	ES 1 Virtual Analog Synthesizer A powerful little virtual analog synthesiser. Analog synths are known for their warm, fat sounds, but their sound palette can be much wider than that when used to their full effect. This particular synthesiser is great for punchy basses, atmospheric pads, biting leads, and sharp percussion.
	ES 2 Synthesizer An innovative synthesiser built around the modular concept of early analog synthesisers. In addition to all the standard source waveforms, this synth offers many wavetable-based waveforms for added sonic complexity. 	Ultrabeat Drum Machine An extremely powerful and flexible drum machine optimised for acoustic and electronic percussion. 	EVOC 20 Polysynth Vocoder A digital vocoder is typically used to transform speech into a synthesised sound. Vocoders can however also be used more creatively to impressive effect. Vocoders have been popularly used on tracks such as Laurie Anderson's O Superman, Lipps Inc's Funky Town and numerous Kraftwerk pieces such as Autobahn, Europe Endless, The Robots and Computer World.
	EFM1 FM Synthesizer FM synthesisers create typically bright, rich, bell-like sounds using a technique called Frequency Modulation (FM). They can be effective for cutting through the mix with a clear and often pure sound.
	ES E Polyphonic Synthesizer Designed primarily for pad and ensemble sounds, this little synthesiser is good for creating pleasantly rich, atmospheric sound-beds.
